Aloha and welcome! We are Michelle and Johnny- we are both photographers, explorers and ocean enthusiasts. We met here in Maui, fell in love and then traveled the world before returning home to this tropical paradise. Our adventurous nature allows us to view the world from unique perspectives and our romantic hearts draw us to capture the raw and authentic moments for you and your loved ones.

The story of a photographer

Our philosophy at Lokahi is defined by our name – to create a feeling of connection and oneness. We bring positive energy and a quiet enthusiasm that allows you and your loved ones to feel comfortable in front of the camera so that we can capture those intimate moments that you will cherish forever.

Whilst we haven’t always been photographers – our experience in other fields has certainly added to our skill sets behind the lens. Michelle is also a boat captain, entrepreneur and freediving instructor. Johnny is a world renowned freediver, instructor and underwater photographer. Guiding people through stressful situations and keeping calm under pressure are traits that we have both acquired; traits that can be very useful when working with this line of work!

Our work has been seen in print and graced the cover’s in magazines such as the Rolling Stone Magazine and Oceanographic magazine.

We used Lokahi for my daughter’s senior photos while we were in Maui for our summer vacation in June and we had a great experience! Michelle was wonderful with her and spent time asking her questions and preferences. Michelle worked quickly and efficiently. We even had to time to throw in a couple family photos in our session. Johnny

Johnny is one half of our dynamic duo. Originally from New Zealand, Johnny has been a photographer for more than ten years. Career highlights include front page images and main articles for Rolling Stone and Oceanographic Magazines.

Johnny brings a relaxed, light hearted approach to his shoots whilst maintaining a sharp and artistic eye for detail and composition. His warm, relaxed demeanour will help put you at ease in front of the camera.

Michelle

The other half of our dynamic is the ever vibrant Michelle. Originally from Arizona, she has called Maui home for more than ten years. Michelles experience in the wedding industry extends beyond photography- she has also worked with some of Maui top wedding planners putting together some of the finest events in the islands.

Michelle brings fun and positivity to her shoots. Her warm heart and smile will have you feeling your best self, where smiles and laughter flow with ease. Whether it’s with sandy feet or in your finest threads, Michelle will add a little touch of magic to your special occasion.

Nick

Meet Nick, a Hawaii-based photographer and filmmaker who loves to capture the world’s beauty through his lens. Nick has been a professional photographer and film maker for close to ten years, capturing couples and family portraits, weddings and elopements in Oahu’s most incredible beaches and landscapes.

His passion for photography has accompanied him beneath the oceans surface where he loves to explore and capture the underwater world. He spends much of his spare time free diving and photographing sharks, chasing colorful schools of fish and chilling with curious sea turtles. If you’re lucky enough to catch him out of the water, you’ll find him wrangling his two young kids and dreaming up his next big shot!

Elijah

Meet Elijah, born and raised on the beautiful garden isle of Kauai, Elijah’s first love for photography started underwater. He has a passion for the outdoors, working in various industries including snorkel guide, freediving instructor and underwater photographer. He has also represented the USA as an athlete at the freediving World Championships. His calm and relaxing demeanor will put you at ease for a fun, authentic photoshoot.
